Bulletin: SVB-118
Date Issued: Apr 19, 2006
Category: Parts/Warranty
Subject: Door warning switch modification
Machine Models: ALF-MAX¨
Back to Index
Problem:
Customers have
reported reliability problems with operation of the access door
warning switch assembly. This switch assembly is mounted on the
stationary frame of the sliding access door, and interrupts normal
workstation operation if the sliding access door is opened. Due to
tolerances, the mating actuator for the switch assembly may not
reliably perform as intended, as a result preventing the ALF¨ MAX
from starting if the door has been opened and then closed. This
condition may lead to excessive production delays while
troubleshooting is performed. This warning switch assembly must be
operating properly to enable reliable, continuous operation of the
ALF¨ MAX workstation.
In response to
these reports, the vendor STI has identified a longer replacement
actuator that will provide more reliable performance than the
originally installed actuator. Alliance has incorporated this
replacement part as standard equipment for all new production ALF¨
MAX workstations.

The replacement
part is a direct substitution for the installed part – no
modifications to the ALF¨ MAX are required. Adjust the side screw on
the actuator to insure that the actuator fingers are positioned to
properly and consistently mate into the switch assembly.
-
Close the sliding access door, reenergize the machine per the
Operator Manual, and resume normal ALF¨ MAX operation.
-
Test for proper operation of the access door warning switch
assembly by confirming that the ALF¨ MAX stops when the access door
is opened, and that the ALF¨ MAX starts when the door is fully
closed. Repeat several times and re-adjust the actuator if
necessary.
-
Reset the ALF¨ MAX and resume normal operation.
