To our valued customer:
This safety bulletin is part of an ongoing effort to provide
quality service and support for all Alliance Machine Systems
International, LLC products. If you need assistance or more
information, please call 509-535-0356 and select option 2 for
Customer Service.
Description of Problem
If the machine is not bolted to the ground and the drive side
guarding is placed too close to the machine, normal vibration will
cause the exit conveyor motor/gearbox to cut into the wire mesh
fence. Please refer to the attached picture. The wire mesh can
potentially cut into the power cables that run to the motor causing
a potentially dangerous situation for plant employees. Figure 1
shows the general location of the problem and Figure 2 illustrates
the mesh cutting into the conduit.

Also, if the operator side guarding is not located correctly, the
platen lockout pin cannot be fully inserted. Figure 3 shows the
general location of this lockout pin and receptacle.

Recommended Solutions
It is recommended that you accomplish the following actions as
soon as possible, but no later than 30 days after receipt of this
bulletin.
-
If the machine is not bolted to
the plant floor, do so according to the layout provided in the
machine’s pre-installation package. Please contact Customer
Service if you no longer have the layout.
-
Inspect the area between the
drive side fencing and the machine to verify that the guarding
is positioned correctly. If the guarding is touching the
conduit/fitting, reposition it so that there is a minimum of
0.5” of clearance.
-
If the wire mesh has damaged the
conduit/fitting to any degree, replace the conduit/fitting.
Follow all proper safety procedures noted in the Bundle Breaker
Operator Manual when replacing the conduit. Please contact your
supervisor if you do not understand the safety procedures.
-
If necessary, move the operator
side guard panel so that the lockout pin can be easily inserted
through the guarding and into the pin receptacle. The center of
the receptacle hole and the hole in the mesh should be
concentric.
